Western Electric 16A Horn

These are photos I took while installing the WE 16A speakers in preparation for the opening of a music café. The location is Seoul, South Korea. After connecting the WE 555 drivers and conducting sound tests, I realized that minimizing interior reflections was crucial. Some people think that the WE 16A horn produces a resonance because it is made of sheet metal, so they attach sound absorbing material to the back of the horn, but this is completely wrong. This phenomenon occurs because sound is reflected off the walls and ceiling inside the room. Therefore, the room must be properly sound absorbed to ensure the reverberation time is under 0.1 seconds. WE 16A loudspeaker installed in a recently opened art gallery in Seoul, South Korea. The loudspeaker were installed to provide background music for visitors to the gallery while they admire the artwork on display. Invented in the late 1920s at the Bell Laboratories in the United States, it is almost a hundred years passed, but the design is so artistic that visitors often mistake it for a non-figurative sculpture work instead of a loudspeaker.
